History and features of Tarmac Works 1/64 scale models

🏁 Brand History: The Rise of Tarmac Works

Founded in Hong Kong in 2014 , Tarmac Works was born from a vision: to create highly detailed and accessible model cars, with a focus on racing , JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) culture and iconic cars from the international road and race scene. Founder Wesley Wong is a long-time collector with a vision to fill a gap between affordable toy models and super-premium resin or metal models.

From the very beginning, Tarmac Works has shown an innovative approach: rather than mass producing with quality compromises, it has preferred to focus on limited runs, official licenses and aesthetic quality , even in the reduced 1/64 scale, historically considered less “noble” than 1/43 or 1/18.

Over time, the brand has consolidated important collaborations with car manufacturers (Porsche, Mercedes-AMG, Audi Sport, Nissan, Pagani, McLaren, etc.), with well-known racing teams and preparers such as RWB (RAUH-Welt Begriff) , Liberty Walk , TOM'S Racing , and with companies in the modelling sector such as MINI GT, Kyosho and Ignition Model .

In addition to quality, a distinctive feature is the attention to Asian automotive culture and its aesthetic and technical declinations: the racing liveries, the customized versions, the tuning accessories, the colors faithful to motorsport events are all elements that speak to the hearts of true enthusiasts.

🚗 Main collections in 1/64 scale

The Tarmac Works catalog is organized into multiple lines, designed to meet different levels of budget, collecting and use:

🔹Global64

It is the "entry-level" line, but far from simple. The Global64 models maintain a good construction quality, with free wheels , well-painted bodies and printed details. They are perfect for those who want to start the collection, for those looking for models to handle without fear, or for those who want excellent performance at an affordable price. The blister or window packaging also makes them ideal as a gift idea.

🔹 Hobby64

The beating heart of Tarmac Works. The models in this line are designed for display: they feature realistic wheels, defined bodywork , meticulous reproduction of details (grilles, mirrors, exhausts, spoilers), gloss or racing paint jobs and showcase packaging with display base . The wheels sometimes do not turn, but this allows for a more realistic, racing setup.

🔹 Hobby64+

Enhanced version of the Hobby64. In addition to all the details already present, it adds opening hoods and a miniature engine reproduction . Designed for the most demanding collectors, it represents the perfect compromise between quality and interactivity.

🔹Road64

Dedicated to everyday or road vehicles. Less aggressive than Hobby64 (no racing liveries), but with the same aesthetic quality. Offers a range of civilian models that are rare to find in other brands, such as European station wagons, Asian city cars or realistic sedans.

🔹 Collab64

Special line in collaboration with other brands, artists or exclusive official licenses. Includes very rare models and numbered collector's items , often linked to events, specific teams or limited production. Among the famous collaborations we find Kyosho, Minichamps, and Japanese preparers known in the tuning scene.

🔹Parts64

Not just cars: Tarmac Works has understood that true enthusiasts want to build miniature worlds . Here is a line dedicated to accessories for dioramas: workshop sets, lifting bridges, pit stop structures, characters, and environmental details.

🔹Trucks64

Recent news and well received by the community. Trucks64 offers models of trucks, industrial vehicles, car transporters and commercial vans such as the Mitsubishi Fuso. Essential for expanding the settings or for those who collect service vehicles.

🌟 Strengths: Why Choose Tarmac Works

🎨 Extreme details even in 1/64

Tarmac Works has redefined the standards of 1/64 scale. Where others limit themselves to generic lines and standard colors, the brand offers authentic liveries, functional aerodynamics (splitters, diffusers, spoilers), official decals , custom wheels and visible and lifelike interiors . In some models you can glimpse the racing seats, the roll-bar or the dashboard complete with details.

🧩 High build quality

Most models feature a die-cast metal structure, rubber wheels, high-performance metallic or matte paint jobs, and plastic inserts for fine details (grills, lights, exhausts). Premium lines often feature resin components for maximum precision.

🏆 Official Licenses

Each model is the result of collaborations with parent companies , motorsport teams and tuning companies: this means that the colors, graphics and proportions are faithful to the originals. This also applies to special versions linked to historical events (e.g. GT Asia, Macau GP, 24H Nürburgring).

🧃 Display packaging

Each premium model comes in an acrylic display case with a silkscreened base, often accompanied by an illustrated sleeve or graphic art inspired by the event or brand . Some are even hand-numbered or come with a certificate of production.

💎 Limited editions and rarities

Many Tarmac Works models are produced in runs of between 1,000 and 4,800 . This makes them attractive to collectors who seek exclusivity and appreciate the investment over time. Some iconic pieces have become true auction items among enthusiasts.
